Edward Shulman

Edward Shulman is the founder and principal of The Shulman Law Group, LLC in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.  Mr. Shulman’s practice is limited to all aspects of U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law.

Mr. Shulman is the former Chairman for the New Jersey Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and the New Jersey Bar Immigration Law Section.  He has been named as Best Lawyers in America® and Super Lawyers® for Immigration Law. He has recently been named by Best Lawyers in America® as Lawyer of the Year for 2023. He is rated a Band One Attorney by Chambers USA, one of only three New Jersey Immigration Attorneys to receive that distinction. He was showcased in Newsweek Magazine and Time Magazine as a Leading Immigration Attorney in the United States.  Mr. Shulman has been a frequent lecturer on Immigration Law to AILA, the New Jersey Bar, the Federal Bar Association and numerous educational institutions including Princeton University.  He has been cited for his legal opinion in various television, radio and written publications including the New York Times.  He has been a legal consultant for the NBC Television Drama, Law & Order, the Lifetime Television Show, Drop Dead Diva and E! News.  Prior to becoming an Immigration Attorney, Mr. Shulman clerked for Judges in Newark, New Jersey and London, England.  He was also a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Maui, Hawaii.

Edward Shulman earned his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and his J.D. degree from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.  He is a member of the Bars of New Jersey, Hawaii and the District of Columbia, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Circuits.

Cathy Baleiron

Cathy Baleiron

Cathy Baleiron, a Senior Associate, has been practicing law for 19 years and joined the Shulman Law Group in 2016.  Ms. Baleiron previously worked as the Supervising Immigration Attorney at Northeast New Jersey Legal Services, where she represented individuals before USCIS and the Immigration Court, with a specialization in family-based immigration cases.

She was credited with helping to create the tri-county Immigration Representation Project and was in charge of supervising other immigration attorneys, paralegals, and law students.  Her honors include: The 2015 Paterson Alliance Extra Mile Award and the 2007 Legal Services of New Jersey Madeline L. Houston Outstanding Attorney Award.  Ms. Baleiron has also conducted numerous Citizenship Clinics, Immigrant Rights workshops, and Immigration training sessions on various immigration topics.

Ms. Baleiron attended New York Law School where she participated in the school’s Immigration Clinic. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from New York University. Additionally, she studied at the William and Mary School of Law in Madrid, Spain.  She is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey and is fluent in Spanish.

Deyvid Arango-Valencia

Deyvid Arango-Valencia is an Associate Attorney at The Shulman Law Group. Prior to joining The Shulman Law Group, Mr. Arango was a Staff Attorney at Neighbors Link Community Law Practice, where he provided pro bono representation to clients before USCIS and the Immigration Court.

Mr. Arango emigrated from Colombia with his family when he was 8 years old. His personal experience going through the immigration system fueled his desire to pursue immigration law. As a first-generation immigrant, he understands the obstacles faced by immigrants and because of that, he is able to connect with clients on a deeper level.

Mr. Arango graduated from Montclair State University and Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

Andrea Vag

Andrea Vag is Of Counsel to The Shulman Law Group, LLC in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. Ms. Vag’s practice is limited to U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law with an emphasis on employment-based matters. Over the past twenty years, Ms. Vag has overseen thousands of cases and counseled clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies in a wide variety of industries including academia, construction, consulting, energy, engineering, fashion, finance, health care, information technology, news media and pharmaceuticals.

Ms. Vag also is one of the few immigration attorneys in the United States with experience in complex adoption based immigration matters. She counsels families, adoption agencies and attorneys about adoption based immigration and testified as an expert witness in the landmark New York adoption case Bissoon v. Johnson.

Ms. Vag was previously a senior attorney for eight years at a global corporate immigration law firm. She is a member of the New Jersey Bar and is authorized to practice U.S. Immigration and Nationality Law throughout the United States. Ms. Vag graduated from Princeton University and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where she was a Jacob Burns Scholar and Executive Editor of the Journal of International & Comparative Law. Ms. Vag emigrated from Hungary with her parents as an infant. Her family was extremely fortunate to qualify for political asylum. As a first-generation immigrant, Ms. Vag appreciates the challenges faced by immigrants and brings that understanding to her work with clients.
