R&B star Miguel, long known for his poignant statements regarding social justice and civil rights, recently released a song called “Now which tackles issues related to detention centers in the United States. His haunting ballad is both a civil rights call to action and a portrait of the inhumane conditions in immigration detention centers.
Miguel’s video for the song features both activists and former detainees discussing their views about and experiences with immigration detention in the United States. There is also a reference to DREAMers. The video opens with a welcome sign to the city of Adelanto, home to the Adelanto detention center, which houses approximately 2000 immigration detainees largely from Central America and Mexico. While Miguel is a US citizen, born and raised in Los Angeles California, his father is Mexican-American.
At the Shulman Law Group, we applaud Miguel for utilizing his public platform as a singer and entertainer to shed light on critically important immigration issues.
